Sometimes when I do a practice sketch I have no choice but to use myself as a model.  The only difference between me and the model in this sketch - is that I don't have four legs . . . (sometimes I crack myself up)

As you know - I'm working on my summer program of painting chairs - my 'chair-cation'.  This is a watercolor practice.  I used a very careful application of paint.  I wanted to use very little color overall - so that this very difficult and complex chair would stand out. The original painting shows the bottom of the dress but at the moment it's driving me crazy! I'll see how I feel about it tomorrow.  (ps also driving me crazy is the fact that I would like to leave comments on some of my favorite blogs but I can't read those blurry numbers!  Sometimes by comments come back to me as failed.  I may have to just mention your name here.)

bonnie and an elegant chair wip . . .

This is a work in progress - one of those paintings that for some reason you don't finish quickly.  I'm posting it now because that's a right snappy little chair - if I do say so myself!  This painting is about patterns - I like the pattern that I was working on - on the side as well.  I thought of Bonnie as a model - she looks snazzy in that dress!

Lisa and an elegant chair . . .

Right now I am on a chair-ca-tion.  A summer of painting chairs.  Julie made me laugh out loud when she said that she had to look for the chair in the last painting.  Can you tell that I found the chair more difficult to draw than the figure in this painting?  For me chairs are difficult - almost as difficult as cupcakes.  I imagine that this is how Lisa looks when she dresses up for one of those fancy doings of hers . . .
