'myra anderson - in search of figurative expressionism #2 "big red"' and expressionist cynthia packard . . .

Another thing about expressionism is that it seems to be slightly less about line and form - and slightly more about color - that is - whether vibrant or muted - the emotion of color.  When you look at the painting by Cynthia Packard (below) might your first or second thought be 'hot pink with a little streak of orange and a little touch of green makes me feel happy?'
step one

step 2

good expressionist start - then oops!

In my painting of 'big red - the girl with the red umbrella' I managed to go a little beyond expressionism and exit onto that road called impressionism.  But that gives me a chance to dance the dance with paint another day.  After I watched this video by Cynthia Packard I filled in the form of my next umbrella girl using my fingers - no brush - I'll show you next time. . .

It's interesting to consider the difference in expressionism and impressionism. You can easily do both. She is lovely. Puts me in the mood to paint an umbrella. I just might one day.
