old and new . . .

The top picture is my first attempt to draw a woman drinking coffee in preparation for a watercolor series.  My mistake was not sketching in the whole composition - including the coffee cup - all at one time.  Once I got this far I didn't want to add anything else.

The second painting is by artist Sue Valadon.  This is the type of series of paintings that I would like - women drinking coffee.  It also shows how old I will be before I get everything right.
