Hello beautiful people!  As you know I'm working on 'the big sketch' starting with 'the dress sketch'.  In this drawing I wanted to see if I could draw a more sketchy face with a more realistic dress.  Please click on 'the big sketch' to see the little red dress!

"sketchbook drama 'got to keep on dancing'" by myra anderson . . .

When I was younger I did indeed take ballet classes at night.  Right across the street was an Irish pub that was famous for it's food - especially it's corned beef and cabbage.  It was here that I learned that sour cream ALSO tastes good on potato pancakes AS WELL AS buttery mashed potatoes . . .

'dressy dancer' by myra anderson . . .

'sketchbook drama - the dancer' by myra anderson . . .

What a diva!  My sketchbook and I don't always get along - but now - towards the end of it's sometimes tortured pages I am beginning to see the light of my new series.  Don't get me started on that other diva - pencil!  But in this case we were able to work together in order to accomplish a few things.  What I wanted pencil to accomplish was shading the garment to show light.  Didn't ask for much.  Not bad.

Here's something you didn't know about me - when I was in college - yes I went to college - my all-time favorite class was Latin American rhythm.  'Really?!'  'Was the other one lunch?' said sketchbook.  Oh! That diva . . .

'green dancer' part of my new series by myra anderson . . .

Oops! one push of a wrong button and in a second I accidentally deleted my last post!  Ah well . . . I was going on about how I was working on a new series of dancers and I had an idea (see previous post) - but I didn't quite know how I wanted to execute this series and . . . uh . . .uh . . . (mental confusion occurred - more later - that is - more information later . . .)

'vermilion! jazzy dancer' - the elbow art of myra anderson . . .

Myra - a self-portrait - a hundred years ago - in a galaxy far, far away. . .

By the way - I wanted to do some red elbow art but I didn't know what to call it.  I looked on the color pencil I was using and the color said 'vermilion'.  And thus a series comes to be . . .

Also, this is how it would look if it was framed - soon to be in my Etsy shop when I finally reopen it!

myra in pencil in paint - an extremely collaged artwerk by myra anderson 'all in a daze - uhhh - day's ballet' by myra anderson . . .

When artists approach me and ask me to do workshops on extreme collaging I explain to them that it's not something that can be taught - it's something that must be experienced.  'Go forth' I tell them 'and experience extreme collaging!'  And then they give me a dollar to compensate for giving them such knowledge.  From the book 'Quit Lying' by myra anderson . . .

an extremely collaged autobiographical sketch by myra anderson 'ballerina yellow dot - the pensive ballerina' by myra anderson . . .

Well, I will get to the hair mentioned in the previous post.  In the meantime I'm still sleepless at night and thinking . . .

One thing's for sure - I believe that just as an apple is an apple - an artist is an artist - so L. don't EVEN think about quitting!  Besides - you CAN'T quit - art is now a part of your DNA!

Another new find for me is this lovely drawing by Degas! I will have to practice this pose!  Paint, draw or SCRIBBLE Degas could produce beautiful ballerinas!  How I managed to get out the scissors and extremely collage these dots on my ballerina - I do not know!  Can you do that Mister Degas?

the extremely collaged graphite drawing of myra anderson "what the hair wants" by myra anderson . . .

Uhhh . . .I kinda promised an epiphany - well, I had an idea that seemed good at 2 in the am - but it did not survive 'the cold light of day' as they say (more to come) . . .
While I'm working things out - I thought that I would get out the trusty scissors and extremely collage her top!
Perhaps you know that in addition to the ballet Degas did many drawings of women combing their hair.

There is another impressionist painter who also did many paintings of the same subject (more to come) . . .

the extremely collaged graphite drawing of myra anderson "my pink and blue featheroo" by myra anderson . . .

Last night I did have a bit of insomnia - WHY?  Well, sometimes we all face such a myriad of problems and concerns don't we?  Since I couldn't sleep - the concern that I chose to focus on was WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I GOING TO DO WITH MY ART?  Snore. . . . . snort. . . . . .gurgle. . . . . other indistinguishable noises (from Harvey or Tiny - not me) uh anyway, after I looked at loads of fantastic artwork on the web - like Rick Nilson - that man can paint anything - and many, many others - finally I had an epiphany (more to come)

color me this . . . color me that . . . by myra anderson

Yes, in between the graphite drawings I believe that everyone would like to see some color somewhere - sometime!  It just occurred to me that if I want to get better at painting with watercolor - I need to paint more!  In this painting - again I did not draw the figure first.  I painted it with watercolor and then drew the few lines that you see.  As I paint more PLEASE be prepared for a thousand WOMEN FROM THE BACK!

Speaking of from the back, I generally just do one figure as you know.  How in the world could I do 'a gaggle' of people like this?  This artist (from Igor and Andre) is giving a class.  I just might take it.

PS Lisa I'm missing your art!

'sometimes life is pink - life is green' by myra anderson . . .

This week I revisited my series of 'big heads'.  Since I have not had the opportunity to paint lately - I remembered an artist who went over his graphite or charcoal drawing with a paint brush.  It gives you that oh so sweet feeling of painting! What fun!  Then you can go back in with the pencils and refine it! Yes Julie - you were right!  Here is the Degas sketch that inspired my drawing below.

myra in pencil and paint - 'and she drew her degas with a bow' . . .

I love Degas.  As we know he did over a thousand drawings of dancers.

Here's one that I have never seen before today!  A simple line drawing - yet so beautiful and compelling!

"this bird's thinking about birdhouse bows" by myra anderson . . .

Remember when I told you about using imagination with the pencils and 'bird with a bow' was all that I had to give?  Well here we go!  More bird!  More bows!  More fun!  You've got to admit that this bird looks less psychotic than the last one!  I'm beginning to wonder what else he can do . . .

pencil and paint 'rose and bows' by myra anderson . . .

For those beautiful spots of color - I like the method where you take the brush and throw paint on the paper . . . just make sure that your other paintings are out of the way!  The hardest part of the drawing was getting those lips right!  I need to find my 'walter foster' books on flower painting but that would entail going through a lot of boxes.  Would someone like to come and help me?

with pencil and paint . . .

This drawing was not easy!  I had to work the lines like a '9 to 5' (full time job) but in the end I was pretty pleased with the results!  Lee's work - inspirational and fantastic!  Julie's watercolor flowers - one of the most beautiful paintings I've ever seen!  Jealousy beams from my eyes lighting up the midnight skies - did you see them?

monday morning's raz-a-mataz and all that's jazz by myra anderson . . .

After being unable to walk, sit, or stand for about two months - I look more like an oreo cookie (round and filled with creamy sugar) than less like an Oreo cookie.  I am not totally out of pain - but I am able to manage it - thus I did this little painting using acrylic on watercolor paper.

I'm moving - and walking - and walking more - but I would also like to add to that 'the beautiful salad'.

sunday morning 'dreaming of' by myra anderson . . .

To be sure. . . I am dreaming of the day that I will beautifully render images with the graphite pencil . . . conquering the tender, emotional life breathing essence of the feminine form . . .

and - I am also dreaming about bacon . . .please be sure. . .

'glamour-us' by myra anderson . . .

Hello beautiful people!  Perhaps you vaguely recognize my model?  No?  Me neither! Anyway, this is a graphite pencil drawing on plain white paper.  I have more drawings to show you and some watercolors too!   I will have to rescan this one at another time because my scanner took the liberty of adding it's own artistic expression with the dots.  Everyone wants to be an artist!

Lisa congrats on the upcoming wedding!  Congratulations to all who have had sales and who have created beautiful works this week! I'm jealous of you all!

In this past month many of us have not been feeling very well - and some of us have lost someone we love in death.  Sometimes there are no 'right' words.  I hope that you feel better soon . . .

still sassy . . .

Hello everyone!  Finally I can sit in a chair without being in horrible pain!  I haven't been able to paint because I was not able to sit up - but I have been drawing - and now - adding some watercolor as you can see.

I want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts  - and - as you can see from this little watercolor - life may kick us in the leg - but we are still sassy!

oh my poor old bones . . .

A few weeks ago I woke up to find that I had a pinched nerve in my leg.  I was in pain from my hip bone to my ankle bone and could not walk at all for about two weeks.  The only time I was not in mind-numbing pain was when I was lying down.  Many heat wraps and ice packs later - and I am finally beginning to feel better!

I didn't have the heart for doing art at the time.  Instead I became well acquainted with television and I am now addicted to 'A&E's Beyond Scared Straight - keeping today's teens from becoming tomorrow's felons' - and 'Spike TV's Bar Rescue'.

Although I didn't have the heart to do my own art - I had the love of YOUR art in my heart!  I continued to admire and think about YOUR art!

Now - listen to me and heed my words!  Go to garage sales or estate sales or something - and get yourself a cane, a walker, crutches, a wheel chair and a portable pottie!  Store it under the bed or in a closet!  This thing happened to me when Harvey was out of town for four days!!  I almost felt foolish dragging a walker with me as I moved from one house to another house - but boy did it come in handy on that fateful day!

Hey!  You have your emergency medical supplies and food supplies (and martini supplies) don't you!  Please heed my words!  Holla! (literally)

well . . .

I haven't ventured far into the whimsical world but I at least found some paint and a brush  . . .
This was a delight to paint but where will my whimsical 'from the back' project take me?
Speaking of whimsical - here is a whimsical artist . . .
