jmarie and an elegant chair . . .

This is a practice sketch for one of my chair paintings.  When I saw the photo below by the artist Raphael Soyer it made me want to continue my exploration of painting in black and white (although this painting was done in color).  I love the patterns and textures of the garments as they look here in black and white. 
As shown in this little sketch I would like to paint patterns and textures.  This painting by Soyer would definitely be one of my  'green box'  paintings (I wish I had painted that).

Oh...this is going to be so good! I really like the clothing on his painting too. You draw hands so well. I think they are so hard to do. I like the patterns you are planning Myra.

What a wonderful flow to this drawing.I think the angle of her head against the shoulder line is marvelous.

I love Soyers work. Our local museum has two pieces. They put them in storage and caused lots of spluttering on my part.

Myra, I love this drawing of the woman and chair. It's beautiful. Good idea to do a series like this. I love her layers of pattern. Marie
