'Well...' you may say. 'She talks about sketching project runway but we have yet to see one sketch, painting or drawing. So far we ain't seen nothing!!!!' Hold on to your sketchpads! Here is a little acrylic painting on watercolor paper showing my interpretation of two looks from episode 1. The yellow skirt was the winning look. And of course THERE'S PEPLUM!!!!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow is the PR party! There is that chocolate candy that when you bite into it - it has the bourbon or brandy liqueur inside...yes...that's what I want! Anyhoo, sometimes I like to take a jumbo sized piece of charcoal and practice drawing. With that thick charcoal - you have no choice but to draw loose! Also, I'm well over 40 and I didn't know what a peplum was until I started watching project runway. It's a skirt or top with the 'little skirt' (or ruffle?) you see on the first outfit. The green part is call a peplum. I saw these outfits in Lee's closet. She's got the jazz a ma tazz.

Yes Lisa G. indeed that was your wardrobe in the last post! Thank you all for asking - yes - my carpet now looks clean and refreshed! This is me dressed for the occasion and walking back and forth in another little dress I saw in Lisa's closet!
ahhhh...tomorrow we move the furniture so that the carpet can be cleaned and we can discover all of the mysteries of life dwelling underneath the coffee table! But tonight is the project runway party! I've peeked into Lisa's closet and I will be wearing one of these garments that she too has hidden in the back of her closet (the closet of her mind-that is-haha!) Anyway - for a few moments - we'll eat a little lasagne, a buttery garlic breadstick, a little red wine and forget the cares of the world. And the hardships of life? Well - we'll spar with you tomorrow! Hey! I'm feeling snazzy and jazzy - I think I'll wear the first outfit! Later cuties! (what's in Helen's closet?)
oh yea! I think Julie has clothes like these in her closet! Well, project runway got off to a fabulous start I think. I saw some beautiful garments that I would like to sketch and paint! What a fun way to improve my technical skills! I've got a week to practice some of these looks! I would like to draw some things that I have never drawn before (like pants - never drew pants!) ...and try painting some patterns and textures (Lee is the master of patterns and textures and so is Lisa). In the meantime...what does Lisa have in her closet? We'll see...
The new season of Project Runway starts tonight! It's time for a season of painting and sketching whatever...even fabulous dresses! In my mind I'm wearing this dress to the party. I need to think about inspiring party food like 'bar b que' wings and things! I'm looking forward to a season of drawing and painting and pastels and pencils and markers and glitter and sequins and other inspiration.
This was my food from the last food challenge...to upscale a can (two
cans used) of tomato soup. My food looked good and tasted good...the
question is could I have done more to upscale the soup itself! I added
some spices, a little brown sugar and a little 'paprika butter' on the
top. This particular brand of soup has 350mgs of sodium - compared to
other soups with 800mgs. This is important since the little butter
added gave the soup a velvety smoothness!! Gotta watch that blood
pressure!!! Where was the garlic? The parsley? The celery? I dunno! Next time! Oh and the painting was an adventure too!
I really wanted to name this painting 'not cinderella'. I looked up the word 'cinderella' and here is part of the definition below. She is 'not cinderella' because sometimes 'it's a strong woman who comes to the rescue'. Am I right?

Oh my what beautiful roses you painted! Breathtaking. Well, tomorrow is/are? the Oscars...and THIS is the dress I'm wearing on the red carpet! Now all I have to do is wake up from this dream, lose 50 pounds, wake up from THAT dream, go to hollywood and star in at least one movie- and I'm all set for the Oscars. By the way, those are supposed to be roses on the bodice! And the dress is a lovely shade of rose. I have a whole gaggle of paintings that I am working on and I hope to post some and share some color with you soon.

Well, I like this drawing better than the last one! It has a micro touch of 'old world glamour'! The other day I happened across this movie called "The Forbidden Street" starring Maureen Ohara. When I saw that this movie was about an artist...you know that I had to watch it! I have to say that I thought it was a good movie! A little campy...but very good! It was Maureen what got me to thinking about old hollywood glamour! The movie tho was set in the victorian era and the fascinating thing about it was that I have seen some artwork that looks just like some scenes from this movie (the woman in her victorian dress). I think that you have probably seen it too! When I come across the artist again I will let you know.

My dearest Tammie gumdrops;
I think that I have been painting so much yellow and red lately because I was working with the 'elevate this can of ravioli' challenge. Below is the final product. I sauteed the ravioli in herbs and spices, added sauce, ground beef and vegetables, onions and fresh tomatoes, put cheese on top and baked it in the oven. It was super delicious. The funny thing is . . .no matter what I did to the ravioli. . .the ravioli itself still tasted the same. . . hahahahaha!

Here is the sketch I alluded to in the last post. Did you notice my big word 'alluded?' Haha! Anyway. . .I did this sketch to illustrate the heart happy combination of red and yellow together.
Also I told you about the food battle right? It's simple. . .just take some (narky?)food and try to elevate it to the next level. In the video below I was trying to elevate some canned ravioli to the next level. I took the ravioli out of the can. . .seasoned and sauted the ravioli and then I . . .wait! I'll tell you the rest later!!!

This is a practice drawing of a lady in a yellow dress (obviously?) Anyway smarty pants. . .as you can see, I turned this drawing into one of my 'extreme collages'! Haha!!!! Please don't even think that this drawing was easy! The more I practiced this pose the worse I got!!! When it came to the painting (and a new pose) I used a rose red background against her cadmium yellow dress...gorgeous colors together! The name of the painting tho is 'turquoise!' I'll leave it to you to figure that one out!
Anyhoo, I am involved in a food cooking battle and someone gave me a big bag of rice krispees. Making a sweet desert like the one you see below - is delicious - but soooooo obvious! I googled 'savory rice krispees' and this cheese crisp appetizer came up! Hey rice krispees. . . saaaayyyyy cheeeeese!
Dear Rose;
A few posts ago I said that I was going to re-interpret a degas ballerina painting as a modern day woman with heels. Well Rose. . .I say a lot of things. . .Rose! What I just said that I would do here. . .I don't even know what it means Rose!!! Interpret who as what? Anyway, I love the colors in my painting - and now I know how I would try again and make the background more subtle. I kinda veered off into some kind of abstract thing with this one. Thank you for being patient as I try this idea again!

Surely you knew that it would only be a matter of time before I would paint the ballet again. I like this painting because it reminds me of the weeks and months I spent training to be a prima ballerina. Ahhh babara...those were great days. Unfortunately there was a pub across the street that offered some of the best food ever. So, for selfish reasons I left behind my dreams of becoming a prima ballerina. I was twenty four when I began to take classes - and easily weighed 150 pounds. Hey! Stop laughing. It coulda happened!

Must continue with step #2. Also... added some background color...added some color to the bottom of the dress ...must add skin tone...and fix the top of the dress - make that big light color right there more subtle...
Step 2 is to add 'a middle tone' and 'a highlight or almost white tone'. After I put down the basic colors then I will go back and darken the darks in some places and redden the reds and lighten the lights. Do I sound confident? No! I'm wingin' it girl!!!!!!
